Art show opens tonight in Gilson
Special to the Gazette
Friday, September 5, 2008
An art exhibit titled “Recoil” opens tonight from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Gilson Memorial Room of King Hall at Emporia State University.
The exhibit features work of Melissa Wichman, an ESU student currently student teaching in the sculpture department at Emporia High School.
The exhibit, primarily of glass art, is intended to show how nature is reclaiming what man has destroyed. According to a news release from ESU, Wichman is inspired by society’s renewed interest in the importance of nature to society’s existence, but she also is interested in how industrial culture cannot affect natural progression as it attempts to control atmospheric forces.
