Endorsements
The National Federation of Independent Business, which earlier announced its endorsement of state Sen. Jim Barnett for re-election, has announced its other endorsements for the Kansas Legislature.
Included in the endorsements were Emporia’s two Republican representatives in the Kansas House, Don Hill and Peggy Mast.
The federation is an association of small-business owners.
Democratic headquarters
The Lyon County Democrats will have a grand opening of their 2008 Election headquarters from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday. The headquarters, which will be a center for distribution of campaign materials for local, state and national Democratic candidates, is at 829 1/2 Commercial St.
Normal hours will be from 1 to 5:30 p.m., Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to noon Saturday.

County chair
Melinda Riles of Emporia has been named the Lyon County chair for U.S. Sen. Pat Roberts’ re-election campaign.
“I am honored to have such a fine Kansan become a member of my team to support my re-election effort as we join together to build a better Kansas,” Roberts said in a news release. Roberts, a Republican, is running for his third term in the U.S. Senate.
