Area art in ‘8 Wonders’ competition

Voting continues for categories in the Kansas Sampler Foundation’s 8 Wonders of Kansas.

The foundation released the finalists of the 8 Wonders of Kansas Art category. One finalist in this category is Post Office Section Art. Post Office Section Art still exists in several post offices around Kansas. Before and after the depression, artists were paid by the federal government to decorate public buildings such as post offices.

Local post offices with Section Art include:

Public voting will determine the top eight. People can vote online at 8wonders.org or call (620) 585-2374 for a ballot or pick up a ballot at finalists that have an office. Voting will run through Oct. 15. The top eight will be announced on Oct. 31.
