Mental health support group
A group is being revived to provide support and develop skills for clients of the area’s mental health system.
The group will meet from 3 to 5 p.m. on Sept. 15 in the Hagemann Building, 104 E. Fourth Ave., and on the third Monday of each subsequent month.
Organizer Barbara Bohm of Americus, a consumer representative on the board of directors of Mental Health Center of East Central Kansas, said that the group will not replace Compeer or NAMI.
“Different people have different needs,” Bohm said.
Once the group has been organized, it will potentially offer leadership activities, such as board development; training, such as computer skills; research, such as doing surveys about satisfaction with local treatments received; publicizing what is available in the community to aid recovery; and other topics, she said. The group also will provide peer support and be a link for resources.
