Nuessen family gathers at home place for reunion

Despite the extremely warm weather on Aug. 2, 2008, 142 descendants of John J. and Mildred I. Morrow Nuessen gathered at the homeplace southwest of Olpe for a family reunion. The family met under shade trees on the lawn as the seven Nuessen siblings reminisced about their time growing up on the farm. The 39 living grandchildren of John and Mildred Nuessen compiled a complete family history by recording their individual time lines on paper posted along the side of the homestead barn. A Mass dedicated to the living and deceased family members was celebrated at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Olpe, after which there was a dance at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Olpe. A star representing each family member, living and deceased, hung above the dance floor. Dance music was played by the Prairie Fire band.
The seven siblings are Gilbert Nuessen, Rosella Hight, Lorena Haag, Marjorie Hagemann, Jerome Nuessen, Leslie Nuessen and Sharon Melton.
Those attending from out of state were Gilbert Nuessen of Burlington, Wash.; Linda Nuessen Lowe of Sedro-Woolley, Wash.; Rosella Hight of Bella Vista, Ark.; Dave and Brenda Hagemann, Jenna and John, of Chatham, Ill.; Melissa Mears of Davis, Okla.; Heather Mears, Chloe, Lexi and Keighly, of St. Joseph, Mo.; John and Sharon Melton of Prague, Okla.; Johnny and Deby Hays of Okemah, Okla.; and Jenny Pearson, Thaddeus and Matthew Frazier and Taylor White, all of Seminole, Okla.
