ESU junior linebacker Katrel Larkins was named the MIAA co-defensive player of the week on Monday after recording a career high 12 tackles, including one tackle for a loss, against Western State on Saturday.
Larkins was ESU’s top performer in the team’s first shutout since 2000. The Hornets held the Mountaineers to 169 yards and just eight first downs.
This is Larkins’ first year to play exclusively at linebacker. Last season he split time at receiver, safety and linebacker.
“I think he’s found a home now at linebacker,” ESU coach Garin Higgins said. “Sometimes you have to find the right spots for your players. A lot of times that’s more important than X’s and O’s, finding them a spot where they can be successful.”
