Rhiannon K. Downes, 17, of Council Grove, was taken by LifeStar air ambulance to Stormont-Vail Hospital in Topeka after a two-vehicle accident about 10:20 a.m. Monday in Morris County.
According to a report from the Kansas Highway Patrol, Tammera K. Kreger, 23, of Garden City, was driving a 2007 Chevrolet west on U.S. Highway 56 approximately six miles west of Council Grove when the vehicle was struck by Downes’ 1992 Ford pickup truck.
The report said that Downes failed to yield right-of-way at a stop sign and turned in front of the Kreger vehicle, striking it in the side.
Kreger was taken by ambulance to Morris County Hospital. She and a passenger in her vehicle, Thomas Campbell, 15, of Garden City, were wearing safety restraints. Campbell was not injured.
Downes was not wearing a seat belt. A spokesman for Stormont-Vail reported that Downes had been treated and released.
