Salina Central shut out Emporia High’s boys soccer team to end the Spartans’ season in the regional championship on Thursday at Salina Central.
The Spartans got 12 saves from goalkeeper Cory Obermeyer but couldn’t get on the scoreboard. Central’s Jack Shoup scored in the game’s 14th minute off an assist from Craig Knox. Knox’s brother Blaine, scored off an assist from Daniel Blevins three minutes later, and Craig Knox fed Blevins for a goal of his own with less than 10 minutes left in the game.
“Our morale just went down after the second score,” EHS coach Angel Cornejo said. “In the second half we just could not do much. ... Our midfielders were outplayed most of the game, and midfield is the heart of the team.”
