Halftime
Three passes to Brandon Gentz on the last drive got Emporia to the Salina South 6-yard line, but the Spartans ran out of time and the halftime siren sounded. Gentz's last catch was a spectacular bobbled and caught 35-yard play down the right sideline, as he corralled the ball and kept his feet in bounds. But the clock read 0.0 at the end of the play. Mark Kolmer is leading EHS with 75 yards rushing on eight carries. Euler has thrown for 118 yards.
33.6 seconds left in the second quarter
Mike Stratton kept for a 5-yard TD run to increase Salina South's lead to 33-9 with the extra point. Antoine Brathwaite's 28-yard run was the highlight of the drive for the Cougars. Brathwaite had 120 yards in the first half on 11 carries.

8:05 left in the second quarter
The Spartans choose to go for it on 4th-and-10 from the 14, and the gamble paid off. Taylor Euler found Corey Bacon for a 14-yard touchdown. The Spartans could not convert the two-point conversion and trail 19-9.
2:43 left in the first quarter
A Brian Dorsey field goal from 31 yards out has the Spartans on the scoreboard, trailing 12-3. Dorsey's field goal was set up by a 45-yard pass from Taylor Euler to a wide open Corey Bacon.

Salina South took a 6-0 lead on Emporia High just two minutes into their district finale at Welch Stadium.
Mike Stratton found Nick Neuburger down the middle for a 45-yard touchdown strike with 9:53 left in the first quarter. The extra point was blocked.

It is too bad this team waited until the last regular-season game to do some passing. Changing it up between the run game and the passing game is what works for most football teams.
