Signs of ancient Egypt were abundant in the third-floor hallways of Lowther North Intermediate School this week. Pyramids, three-dimensional maps, games, sarcophagi, written work and costumes were on display for the rest of the building’s students to view.
Teacher Misty Ginter said the projects were created by students to demonstrate what they had learned during a multi-disciplinary unit on Egypt. The team had been studying the geography, government, religion, leaders, resources and accomplishments of ancient Egypt. “To complete the social studies unit and integrate inquiry for literacy, students were asked to research information and create a project to support their learning,” she said. “All of the students did an amazing job and were excited about their work and effort.”
Parent involvement also was a part of the activity. Students created the projects at home with the help of their parents. Students reported that they had fun thinking of a project and carrying it out using a variety of materials.
The Green Team includes the classrooms of Cindy Hadicke, Christina Lienemann, Gayle McDonald and Ginter.
