Haunted Tents

Enter if you dare! Bob and Delores Davis of Olpe have have a spook tent for Halloween visitors each year. Inside there are twists, turns and surprises — once visitors get past the animal bones at the entrance.

OLPE

Bob and Delores Davis of Olpe, have made a tent so spooky that they had to create a second “Casper” tent for the younger kids who won’t dare enter the larger spook tent.

The Davises have had their “Spook Tent” up for four years now in Olpe. Bob Davis, who also is a Lyon County commissioner, said the tent idea actually took shape when the couple lived in Emporia and they had a tent set up there using simple props such as spaghetti and catsup as blood and guts.

Four years ago they decided to put up another tent in Olpe. This large Army-type tent looms in their yard at 407 Charles St. in Olpe. The smaller “Casper” tent is for younger spook-seekers.

“It’s just something to do,” Bob Davis said. “All the neighborhood kids have little parties. I just decided to put up the tent.”

The entrance of the large tent sets the stage for what lies inside. The entrance is decorated with three vehicle loads of pumpkins and animal bones. Before visitors can enter the tent, they must first get past the maze of animal bones, which includes a large back bone.

“I think the entrance is the secret to this,” Davis said.

Inside the tent, many surprises await from a casket to a hanging ghost. A kettle using dry ice for steam, cooks up a witchs brew, Davis said as he stood inside the tent Thursday.

The Davis spook tents will be open tonight.
