A Thanksgiving dinner for a family of four has been added to the Angel Food Ministries boxes that will be offered for sale this month. Standard monthly boxes for families and senior citizens, as well as bonus boxes of meats, vegetables and fruits, also can be ordered by the public next week at four churches in Lyon County.
Regular boxes, priced at $30 each, will contain:
Four 6-oz. new York strip steaks, 3 lbs. split chicken brreast, 2 lb. baby-back pork ribs, 2 lbs. chicken chunks, 28 oz. jumbo charbroiled beef patties with gravy, 1 lb. smoked sausage, 1 lb. ground turkey, 1 lb. green beans, 1 lb. diced sweet potatoes, 10 oz. peanut butter, 15 oz. cranberry sauce, 7 oz. beef-flavored rice and vermicelli, 20 oz. shoestring fries, 32 oz. two percent reduced fat shelf-stable milk, 6 oz. pancake mix, one dozen eggs, and one dessert item.
A limited number of Thanksgiving dinner boxes also will be sold for $30 each. The meal feeds an average of two adults and two children and will include a 7-lb. average Perdue roasting hen, 2 lbs. heat-and-serve mashed potatoes, 2 lbs. heat-and-serve corn, 2 lb. heat-and-serve green beans, 17 oz. cornbread dressing, 4.5 oz. brown gravy mix, 15 oz. cranberry sauce, eight dinner rolls and one dessert item.
Specialty boxes are available for people who purchase a regular box. The specialty boxes will include:
Box 1, 7 pounds of meat (beef roast, pork ribs, hamburger steaks, mild Italian sausage with mozzarella cheese), $21; Box 2, 4.5 lbs. meat combo (bone-in ribeyes, K.C. strips, and boneless center-cut pork chops), $21; Box 3, 4.5 lb. flavored boneless/skinless chicken breasts, $18; Box 4, fresh fruit and vegetables, $21.
Senior Convenience boxes, which sell for $28, contain ten seasoned, nutritionally balanced, fully cooked meals to heat and serve, according to the Angel Food Ministries. Each meal holds three ounces of protein, a starch, and two vegetables or fruits.
The senior box entrees are: slow-cooked chicken chunks with sweet ’ sour sauce over steamed rice, spaghetti with Italian meat sauce, chili, chicken with creole sauce, ground beef teriyaki stir fry, chicken ala king, beef cabbage casserole, chicken rice pilaf, turkey tetrazzini, and chicken stew served over rice.
Orders will be taken during these times at the following churches:
• Grace United Methodist, 2 Neosho St.: Thursday, Nov. 6, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.; Friday, Nov. 7, 2 to 6 p.m.; Saturday, Nov. 8, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
• Emporia Presbyterian, 802 Commercial St.: Thursday, Nov. 6, 2 to 4 p.m.; Friday, No. 7, 4 to 7 p.m.; Saturday, Nov. 8, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
• Americus Presbyterian Church, 557 Orange St., Americus: Friday, Nov. 7, 1 to 6 p.m.; Saturday, Nov. 8, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

• Payment for boxes must be made in advance with cash, money orders, or Vision cards; no personal checks are accepted.
Each participant needs to bring a large box to pick up the food on Saturday, Nov. 22, at times designated by each church. Food not picked up at those times will be donated to others in need.
