AS A FORMER student of Carol Strickland, I felt it was important to share with the citizens of the 76th House District what a great opportunity we have to elect a true leader.
While I am sure that many of you know of her nationally recognized experience as an educator, it was her focus in speech communication, debate and forensics that will give her a strong foundation for working in the Kansas Legislature. It was her urging that pushed students to expand their knowledge and understanding of issues at all levels that would give us the critical thinking skills to achieve at a higher level.
Those same skills of information-gathering and sorting, critical thinking and developing a coherent message are what we need to represent us in the Legislature. It is those skills that have allowed her to come to some important conclusions about the 76th District that I believe will help us all if we can support her in this election.
We can and should expect our representative to be a leader, not a follower. Some have argued in this very paper recently that the system is broken. Carol is the candidate who can fix it. And while some will tell you that she is wrong, it is her skills at research and understanding that have guided her to correctly state that “clean-coal technology” does not exist and it is our state legislator’s job to understand that.
We have an opportunity to expect leadership from the 76th District and Carol Strickland is exactly the right person to deliver on that expectation.
