Friends are coordinating efforts to collect items and financial donations for an Emporia family that lost everything in a fire Sunday night that sent two to a Shriner’s hospital for treatment of burns.
Rylan Crowell, 8 months, is listed in fair condition this morning at the Shriners Hospital in Cincinnati, a hospital spokeswoman said. Rylan was upgraded from serious condition Wednesday. Rylan is the son of Amanda and Dustin Crowell. Amanda Crowell also suffered from burns in the fire. Ryan Lewis, a family friend, said Amanda and Rylan have third-degree burns.
The fire was called in at 11:15 p.m. at 614 Garfield St. When fire crews arrived, one room was fully involved in flames. Tom Andrews, fire marshal, said this morning that the cause of the fire is still undetermined. The Crowells have two other children, Taylor, 6, and Caleigh, 2. They are staying with a local family while their parents and Rylan are in Cincinnati.
Lewis said the family is in need of donations.
“They basically lost everything,” Lewis said. “The fire was contained to one room, though smoke, water and heat damage caused the loss of most of the contents of the home. This included the family’s clothing. That’s the immediate need, and upon their return from the hospital they will be staying with family until another home is found.”
After the family finds another home they will need furnishings, Lewis said.
A fund for monetary donations has been set up at Victory Fellowship Church. Checks need to be made out to Victory Fellowship Church and mailed to the church at 693 Road 190, Emporia, KS 66801. For questions, call 342-3676.
Clothing donations are needed as well and can be brought to 601 Garfield St., 794-5797; or 626 Sherman St., 343-1796. Please call ahead before dropping off items.
Clothing is needed for these family members:
• Taylor, age 6: Shoe size 2; Clothing sizes 7-8
• Caleigh, 2: 2T-3T clothing; shoe size 7
• Rylan: Wears 12-month clothing
• Dustin: 34-32 jeans; large T-shirts and sweaters; 11-12 shoe size
• Amanda: Size 5 or 6 jeans; medium T-shirts and sweaters; 7-7 1/2 shoe size
Lewis asked that donors keep in mind that winter is coming and include winter clothing, such as sweaters.

I believe that Taylor is a boy and Caleigh is a girl. And as the article states, Rylan is a boy.
