A 22-year-old Holton man died early this morning when the vehicle he was driving collided head-on with a semi-tractor trailer.
Brandon Jenkins of Holton was dead at the scene of the accident, at Milepost 309 of Highway 50, about one mile east of Cedar Point.
Chase County Sheriff Richard Dorneker said that the crash was called into his department at 2:47 a.m. today. Officers reached the accident site about 3 a.m. and closed the highway, which did not reopen until about 10:15 a.m.
“It was pretty apparent that the westbound car crossed the center line and ran into the eastbound semi,” Dorneker said.
The truck was driven by Michael Olsem, 65. Olsem was taken to Newman Regional Health for treatment. His injuries were not believed to be serious.
