Penny Supper
The Hartford United Methodist Women will serve the Penny Supper, beginning at 5 p.m. Saturday. Foods include ham loaf, chicken pie, pork tenders, a variety of vegetables and salads, pie and ice cream. The next Penny Supper will be at 5 p.m. Feb. 7, 2009.
Fall festival in Americus
The Americus United Methodist Church will have the Annual Fall Festival and dinner from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday. The menu includes baked steak and gravy, mashed potatoes, vegetable, salad, roll and homemade desserts. The cost for adults is $7; $4, children 4-10; and free for children three years and younger. The entertainment will be by “Solid Rock” and a Country Store will be open. Proceeds will go to the church general fund.
And in Emporia
The Sacred Heart Catholic Church 23rd annual Fall Festival and dinner will be held Sunday, with serving of a traditional turkey dinner from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in Parish Hall. The menu features baked turkey, whipped potatoes and gravy, sauerkraut and stuffing, assorted salads, green beans, dinner rolls, homemade desserts, iced tea and coffee. Takeout and deliveries are available by calling 342-1061 by Friday. The cost is $8 for adults and $3 for children 3-10. There also will be drawings for prizes and a quilt.
Book fair for preschool
The Friends Together United Methodist Preschool will be host for an Usborne “Reading is a Gift” book fair from 8:30 to 9 a.m. and 11:15 to 11:45 a.m. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at the First United Methodist Church. The book fair also will be open from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 5:45 to 7:15 p.m. Sunday and 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday. This event will provide a percentage of all sales toward free books and/or materials to the preschool, stated the news release. Book sale in Gridley
The Friends of the Gridley branch of Coffey County Library will have the annual book sale Monday through Nov. 8 at the Gridley Library. Sale hours are 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday; 9 a.m.-7 p.m. Tuesday; 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Wednesday; 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 6; 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Friday, Nov. 7; and 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Nov. 8. Available for sale will be books for adults, teens, children, along with videos, audio books and music compact discs.
