County tax statements won't be mailed until after election

Wednesday, October 29, 2008

Lyon County tax statements won’t be ready until after the election next week, Lyon County Clerk Karen Hartenbower said this morning.

Hartenbower said she hasn’t received levy information from two counties. The levy information is needed because of districts that join with other counties. Hartenbower said Morris County and Lyon County share in Fire District No. 9.

“I don’t know how much mil levy to charge Lyon County (for that district),” Hartenbower said.

Hartenbower did not give an exact date as to when tax statements will be mailed but they will not be mailed until after the general election on Tuesday.

Did you not read the story? It clearly states the reason for the delay in the tax statements.

TAX LEVY STATEMENTS DELAYED

By Chuck Samples/KVOE News

If you're expecting your property tax levy statement from the Lyon County Clerk's office this week, you'll have to wait until the end of next week at the earliest.

Typically the statements are mailed out by Nov. 1, which falls on Saturday. However, there are other reasons why the statements won't get mailed out yet.

The County Clerk's office has not received all the necessary levy information from neighboring counties. There are also some unspecified issues with the company that prints and mails the statements.
...........................................
Why are we contracting with other companies to print statements and why cant they be printed by lyon county?

Hopefully who ever they are paying is local and they are spending the money in Emporia! more tax dollars for conracting services out I suppose.

If I remember right they even have some other comapny send out vehicle registration renewal.
