An Emporia man reportedly was shot Thursday night during what police described as “a drug deal gone awry,” according to a report in the Wichita Eagle on Friday.
He underwent surgery at Wesley Medical Center and was reported in fair condition.
The Eagle reported a 24-year-old woman told police that she and the victim had driven from Emporia to Ashbury Court Apartments on South Woodlawn in Wichita to buy drugs from a stranger, the Eagle reported. The man pulled out a gun, stole the 21-year-old victim’s cell phone and wallet, and shot him once in the stomach. The incident happened shortly after 9 p.m.
The woman was not injured, the Eagle reported.
Wichita police had not returned a phone call for more information by press time.
