Emporia High’s cross country teams will be headed to the state meet again this year after strong finishes at their 5A regional on Saturday at Wichita.
The Spartan boys, led by a fifth-place finish from Octavio Dikin, finished second as a team behind host school Carroll. EHS finished with 62 points to Carroll’s 34, and Dikin ran the course in 17 minutes and 46 seconds. But not far behind the senior Dikin were sophomores Tyler Tilton and Matt Wayman, who took seventh and eighth places. Tilton clocked an 18:03 time, and Wayman finished in 18:04. Jack Heim also medaled with a 17th-place finish. Matt Fry finished 25th, Cody Black 27th and Drew Detwiler 28th.
