NEW YORK (AP) _ With Jay Leno, David Letterman and Conan O'Brien all taking the week off, the presidential campaigns are catching a break. There were still some jokes to be found Monday, primarily about Colin Powell's endorsement of Barack Obama.
___
"You want a transformational figure, Powell? Endorse John McCain. This campaign has transformed him into everything he hated." — Stephen Colbert, Comedy Central's "The Colbert Report."
___
"Rush (Limbaugh, who suggested Powell's endorsement was all about race) knows how African-Americans think. How else would he convince 100 percent of them not to listen to his radio show?" — Colbert.
___
"The Obama team welcomed this endorsement. But you'll have to remember something. Colin Powell also endorsed the Iraq War and the Bush administration." — Craig Ferguson, CBS' "Late Late Show."
___
"Wonder how John McCain feels about Colin Powell endorsing Obama. He is probably all right with it. Men his age are used to have colon problems." — Ferguson.
___
"Even if John McCain doesn't win the election in America, he'll still be president of Real America, the America that matters. The one that Sarah Palin will still take questions from." — Jon Stewart, Comedy Central's "The Daily Show."
