Driver safety
The AARP Driver Safety Program classroom driver refresher course designed for drivers over 50 will be held Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon with a one-hour lunch break, continuing from 1 to 5 p.m. at the old Lyon County Court House, 402 Commercial St. Participants will learn defensive driving techniques, new traffic laws, rules of the road and much more and how to adjust driving to age-related changes in vision, hearing and reaction time. You do not have to take a test. This course is open to drivers of all ages. The cost is $10 and this will be the last class in Emporia for this year. Automobile insurance companies in Kansas provide a multi-year discount to AARP driver safety program graduates. For more information, call Jerry Marshall at 342-5841.
Friends group meets
RCIL Friends, a group of individuals who experience disability, are meeting at 2 p.m. Monday at the Emporia Public Library, 110 E. Sixth Ave., to help organize evidence, sign petitions and discuss further actions needed to improve city sidewalk accessibility for people with disabilities.
