Guard member honored
Former Reading resident Chief Master Sgt. Dena Swisher, a member of the Coyotes 190th Air Refueling Wing in Topeka, was recently awarded the Air National Guard Director of Safety Outstanding Safety Achievement Award, also known as the Safety Heisman, stated the news release. It is the top award given in the safety field in the ANG.
Swisher is the manager of the 190th ARW Ground Safety Program. The award was presented to Swisher by the Director of the ANG, Lt. Gen Craig McKinley at the Leadership Summit in Wisconsin.
Lt. Col. Chris Gnagi, chief of safety, said in the press release, “It is widely known that Chief Swisher is the resident expert for all things safety at the 190th. This award validates her expertise at the national level.”
Swisher is the daughter of Ida Jo and Bill Jones of Olpe and the late Dean Swisher of Reading.
Chosen for program
Michael Lanzrath, junior in agricultural communications and journalism and animal sciences and industry from Allen, has been chosen for the College of Agriculture Training Program at Kansas State University.
The four-month program, sponsored by the College of Agriculture Ambassadors, teaches students about K-State, the college and majors offered by the college. Students in the program also will learn skills, such as resume building and interviewing tips, to help them get internships or jobs.
Once participants complete the program, they will be invited to apply to become College of Agriculture Ambassadors. The ambassadors assist with various activities both on and off campus that promote the college.
