Madison
The Madison News reported that the Madison Annual Fall Fest is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 25. A sloppy Joe feed will started at 4:30 p.m. in front of Deanna Smith’s accounting office. The decorated and carved pumpkin contest will also be held at this time with prizes being given. The parade will begin downtown at 5:30 p.m. followed by downtown trick or treating from 6 to 7 p.m. A haunted house will follow at dark at the depot.
Eureka
The Eureka Herald reported that Leevi Werner was installed as the Eureka postmaster on Wednesday. Werner began his career with the United States Postal Service in February of 2004 as PTF clerk in Derby. He later changed over to the carrier craft to be a city letter carrier, also in Derby. In January 2007 he was selected as supervisor for customer services in Newton.
Burlington
The Coffey County Republican reported that the Burlington City Council sold old Christmas decorations. The city received two bids for the Christmas decorations, both from Yates Center. One bid was for 50 decorations and one for 35. The council accepted the $3,250-bid for the 50 lighted decorations. The pole-mounted decorations are the old-fashioned scroll design with lamp, garland and 120 or 240-volt lights.
