Friday Thoughts is a light-hearted commentary.
LAST week was Fire Prevention Week and Emporia firefighters visited area schools dispensing important fire-prevention tips.
Our 5-year-old, Hattie, came home telling me things like “If your clothes are on fire you should stop, drop and roll. You should have lots of fire detectors in the house and, Daddy, you only have one upstairs.”
In addition to fire prevention tips, they were apparently giving out health advice because Hattie said:
“Daddy I have something important to tell you. Smoking cigarettes causes fires. They are bad for you and will make you very sick.”
Upon hearing that, I wondered if the Clean Air Emporia committee was giving the fire prevention presentations but she insisted they were firefighters.
When I asked the name of the firefighter who was doing the presentations she said his name was “Stinky Pants.” I inquired if that was really the fireman’s name and she insisted several times it was.
I will need to do some investigating to see if there is actually a firefighter named “Stinky Pants,” but congratulations to the entire Emporia Fire Department for doing a good job of educating our youth during Fire Prevention Week.
