East Central 2-Man this weekend
The 20th annual East Central 2-Man golf tournament will be held Saturday and Sunday at Emporia Municipal Golf Course.
The deadline to enter is Friday at 5 p.m. Entry costs $80 per person for nonmembers of the golf course and $50 for members. Entry fee includes green fees and lunch on Saturday. Tee times begin at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, and assigned tee times begin at the same time on Sunday.

Spotters and
scorekeepers needed
Emporia Municipal Golf Course is hosting the 1A - 3A State Girls Championship on Monday. The course needs about 15 volunteers to help as scorekeepers and spotters for this tournament. If interested, call Rich Jaggard at 342-7666 for more details.
Hunter education
A hunter education course will be held on Oct. 25 and Oct. 26 at Camp Alexander east of Emporia. Classes begin at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday and 1 p.m. on Sunday. Both class sessions must be attended in their entirety for certification. Participants must be at least 11 years old by Oct. 26, 2008 to be eligible for certification. Sports injury clinic
Newman Orthopedics & Sports Medicine, 1301 W. 12th Ave., Suite 105, will host free clinics to examine any injury occurring during the fall sports season.
The clinics will open every Saturday at 10 a.m. Athletes must arrive by 10:30 in order to be seen. Dr. Michael Yost will conduct the clinic. A screening by Yost will not carry a charge, but diagnostic tests such as radiology services will include a charge. If the examination reveals a problem, an appointment for the athlete will be scheduled for regular office hours at a later date.
Fall basketball league
Emporia High School boys basketball coach Rick Bloomquist's Boys Basketball Fall League runs through the month of October. The league is designed for boys to improve their skills and have fun.
Emporia High staff and players will serve as coaches. Games will be held on Sunday afternoon and one weeknight each week. Participants are guaranteed 10 games. No practices will be held. Teams will have a maximum of eight players. Third-graders and younger will play with 8-foot goals.

Kids wrestling clinic
Emporia Kids Wrestling will hold its 2008 wrestling clinic on Tuesday, Nov. 11 and Wednesday, Nov. 12 from 6:15 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
The event is an introductory clinic for any child age 4 to 13 who is interested in participating in wrestling. Please wear shorts and a T-shirt. Hoops Classic

The Topeka Hoops Classic basketball tournament will be held Nov. 14-16 at Washburn Rural High School, 5900 S.W. 61st St., Topeka. The tourney is for boys in grades 3-8 and girls in grades 3-6. The Satchel Paige All-Stars traveling baseball team is accepting registration for players ages 13 to 18 who would like to participate in the team's Christmas baseball clinic and tournament in Bradenton, Fla., and/or be part of the 2009 summer travel team.
