Hartford loses to Flinthills, Burlingame

The Hartford volleyball team lost two home matches on Tuesday, losing to Flinthills 25-21, 25-20, and to Burlingame 25-10, 25-10.

Paige Hamman was one of the Jaguars’ top performers against Flinthills, recording 12 digs. Kellie Farr had four blocks, and Samantha Wilkerson was a perfect 6-for-6 on serves.

Amanda Zwellmiller recorded nine digs against Burlingame, and Farr had four digs and four blocks. Hamman, Zwellmiller and Kristen Williams were all perfect on serves, with Williams going 6-for-6.

“We passed better,” Hartford coach Paul Cassity said of the Burlingame matchup. “However, Burlingame did a great job defensively and the girls were unable to get their offense on track.”

Braves take fourth at home volleyball invite

Council Grove’s volleyball team finished in fourth place at its invitational tournament on Saturday.

The Braves went 2-1 in pool play, scoring victories over Santa Fe Trail 25-12, 25-17, and Chase County 25-16, 25-10, before losing to Sacred Heart 25-14, 25-14. Council Grove came out of its pool as the No. 4 seed, then lost to third-seeded Abilene 25-4, 25-16. That moved the Braves to the third-place game, where Clay Center defeated them 25-11, 25-11.

Sacred Heart won the tourney, defeating Abilene 25-21, 25-20 in the final.

Sacred Heart’s Katelyn Schmidtberger was named the tournament’s most valuable player.
