Pin taco supper
VFW Post 1980 will have a homemade pin Taco Supper from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at the post home, 932 Graphic Arts Road. The tacos will be served with beans and rice, with takeout available. Tacos are available frozen or cooked.
The cost is $5 a plate. All proceeds will go to the Canteen for football raffles.
German food feast
The Olpe United Methodist Church will have a German Foods Feast from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the church. Foods include bierocks, sauerbraten, sauerkraut and pork, German potato salad, other salad, fresh apple or German chocolate cakes, other desserts and beverages.
The cost is a free-will offering for the building fund. The church is handicap-accessible.
Emporian will run
Donna Church of Emporia will compete for the first time in the Breast Cancer 3 Day event in Dallas on Nov. 7 through 9. Funds raised by the event will benefit the Susan G. Komen for the Cure organization.
Church will dedicate her walk to her mother, who has survived cancer twice. Church has raised more than $2,300 from family, friends, and Emporia-area businesses. Others who want to donate may call 343-5465, or visit www.The3Day.org online.
National Rescue Ride
Winding Road Equine Rescue of Waverly will participate in the first annual National Rescue Ride on Sunday. Winding Road also will be host for a pre-trail ride activity on Saturday. It is sponsored by Purina Mills and Eisenhower State Park, at Melvern Reservoir near Melvern.
The event will be held at “Ike’s House” in Eisenhower State Park. It will begin at 4 p.m. Saturday with a silent auction. One of the featured items is a copy of the book “The Soul of a Horse,” which is signed and donated by the author, Joe Camp, who created the Benji series.
The barbecue starts at 5 p.m. The trail ride will follow on Sunday with a free continental breakfast at 9 a.m. The ride begins at 11 a.m. After a three-hour ride, lunch will be offered. Participants, both riders and walkers, are asked to register at www.nationalrescueride.org.
