ESU volleyball ranked No. 1 in regional poll

Emporia State has gone 18-0 this season against teams in its South Central region and the team was rewarded today with a No. 1 ranking in the first regional poll.
The regional poll determines the host site for the NCAA regional tournament at the end of the season. The Hornets have won 19 straight and have yet to lose in the MIAA. They are followed in the poll by West Texas, and MIAA teams take up the next four spots: Truman at No. 3, Central Missouri is fourth, Wasburn fifth and Pittsburg State sixth.
The NCAA regional field will include the automatic qualifiers from the MIAA, Lone Star and Heartland conferences and the highest remaining teams in the final poll. Emporia State, ranked 10th in the country, travels to No. 9 Washburn on Friday.
Olpe’s game cancelled
Olpe High School’s home football game against Maranatha Academy on Friday has been cancelled because Maranatha could not bring enough players to play in the game.
No substitute game has been scheduled, the school said Thursday morning. Olpe is 6-0 on the season; Maranatha is 0-6.
