National commander to visit
National American Legion Commander Dave Rehbein will be at the American Legion Post 5, 2921 W. 12th Ave., on Sunday.
A dinner in his honor is planned from 6 to 7:30 p.m.
The dinner is open to the public, and potential Legion members are encouraged to attend.

Young Emporia Professionals
The Young Emporia Professionals are looking for new members between 20 and 40 to join them in “fostering community awareness and networking opportunities,” according to the news release. Their mission is “to promote and offer innovative ways for young professionals to expand their professional horizons in the Emporia area.” The events include educational and social at the Chamber of Commerce office. The next event in October will be a Halloween Party from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Town Royal.
