Halloween Express

The Sertoma Club will have candy and free rides on The Little Train in Soden’s Grove on Halloween in conjunction with the annual Boo in the Zoo celebration of the Emporia Friends of the Zoo.

Club president Bob Hush said the train will run from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., during the zoo event, and will continue running into the evening.

Club members decided to combine their efforts with those of EFOZ and turn the activities in Soden’s Grove into a big event.

“This is something new for us,” Hush said. “We’re not going to stop at 5:30. We’re going to continue on until people stop coming.”

Woman found dead

MANHATTAN — Police are investigating the suspicious death of a woman whose body was found behind a Manhattan hotel.

Riley County Police said Monday that the victim has been identified, but her name has not been released.

Investigators from Riley and Pottawatomie counties are expected to disclose details of the crime and possibly the victim’s name at a joint news conference this morning.

The woman — in her late teens or early 20s — was found behind the Quality Inn hotel in east Manhattan at 7:20 a.m. Sunday. Police said they’re looking for a light-colored 1991 Toyota Previa minivan, Kansas license tag 980 BCK.
