Hornets and Bearcats play to a tie

Monday, October 13, 2008

Emporia State’s soccer team ended a five-game losing streak by playing to a tie against Northwest Missouri on Saturday at TRYSA Soccer Complex.

The Hornets were outshot 34-7, but freshman goalie Jennifer Stillmock had a career high 12 saves to keep the Hornets in the game.

Emporia State scored first late in the first half when Alison Germany scored her second goal of the season. Germany was set up by Raquel White, who beat the goalie to a loose ball and passed to a wide open Germany.

Germany had three of the seven shots taken by the Hornets and three of the four shots on goal. She also became the team’s second-leading goal scorer with her goal.

The Bearcats tied the game in the 73rd minute when Kelly Obley came off the bench to score.

Stillmock made three saves in the two overtimes periods to secure the tie for the Hornets.

The tie was the first for Emporia State since 2006. The Hornets earned a point in the MIAA standings and are 1-6-1 in the conference and 3-8-1 overall.

They face Washburn on Thursday at 7 p.m. at TRYSA.
