Emporia State's Megan Koster spikes a kill past Missouri Southern's Amelia Judge during ESU's win at White Arena Saturday, Oct. 11.

No. 11 Emporia State followed a dramatic 3-2 win over Pittsburg State on Friday night by cruising to an easy 3-0 sweep against Missouri Southern on Saturday night.

The Hornets were never tested by the Lions, winning 25-11, 25-20, 25-9 for their 19th straight victory. They scored nine straight points at one point in the match and Pittsburg State remained the only team that has truly tested the Hornets in the conference.

The Gorillas took the Hornets to five sets, the only team to win two sets against the Hornets in the MIAA. They have swept six of their last seven opponents and remain the lone undefeated team in the conference at 8-0.

Brittney Miller led the Hornets with 13 kills with a .545 hitting percentage. Arica Shepard had a double-double with 11 kills and 12 digs and Megan Koster joined Miller and Shepard in double figure kills with 10 on a .556 hitting percentage. Koster also had eight digs.

Ting Liu led Emporia State (22-1) in assists for the 23rd time this season with 37, following her career-high 66 assists on Friday against Pitt State.

The Hornets are off until Friday when they travel to No. 8 Washburn, the highest-ranked team in the MIAA. Washburn is also the only ranked team in the conference that the Hornets have yet to play this season. Last year the Hornets and Ichabods split their two matches against each other.

Friday’s match starts at 7 p.m. at Lee Arena.
