The Emporia State men’s cross country placed sixth at the Border States Invitational on Saturday in Edwardsville, Ill.
The Hornet men were without their top two runners, Skyler Delmott and Marcus Summers — Delmott sat out to train for the MIAA Championships, and Summers was ill. Without them, Asher Delmott led the way for the Hornets, finishing 22nd with a time of 27 minutes, 00.29 second. Michael Stephens finished 32nd for the Hornets with a time of 27:13.63. The men logged 193 points; Paradise Valley Community College won the meet with 42. Pittsburg State had 61 points to place second.
Katie Mona led the Emporia State women with an eighth-place finish, running in 18:52.16. Morgan Frehe was ESU’s second-best runner, finishing 55th. The Hornet women finished with 262 points to place 11th. Missouri Southern’s 71 points won the women’s race, finishing 17 points ahead of Pittsburg State.
Emporia State will next compete at the MIAA Championships on Oct. 25 in Warrensburg, Mo.
