Matt Wayman finished 27th for EHS, Sal Tovar finished 61st, Cody Black ran 62nd and Matt Fry finished 78th. Campus won the boys title with a team score of 35; the Spartans finished with 247 points.
“We are still hindered by some injuries and sickness, but the meet was a good building block to lead into the championship season,” Emporia coach Mark Stanbrough said. “We have not been at full strength for several weeks, but hopefully we’ll have everyone back next week.”
The Spartans will attempt to keep alive a streak of six straight boys league titles when they host the Centennial League meet on Saturday at Jones Park. The boys race begins at 11 a.m. and the girls race follows at 11:30. Manhattan will be the favorite in both the boys and girls races; the Indian boys are the second-ranked team in Class 6A, and the Manhattan girls are No. 1.
