Today

The Emporia Chess Society meets from 6:30 to 9 p.m. at the Granada Coffee Company. All ages and skill levels are welcome, including children. There is no charge.

Emporia Masonic Lodge 12 meets at 7:30 p.m. at the Masonic Temple, 424 Merchant St.

The Reading Lions Club meets at 7 p.m. at the Reading Community Building.

Tuesday

The Flint Hills Regional Quilt Guild meets at 10 a.m. the second Tuesday of every month at the Presby West Campus, 1702 W. 15th Ave. The program, “Sewing Room Arrangement,” will be presented by Robb and Graves of Manhattan.

The Rotary Club meets at noon at the Emporia Country Club, 18th Avenue and Rural Street.

Single Adult Fellowship group meets at 6 p.m. every Tuesday in October at Coach’s, 2702 W. 15th Ave. Information: Rufus Hobbs, (620) 392-5780.

The Kiwanis Club meets at 6 p.m. at the American Legion, 2921 W. 12th Ave.

The Twin Rivers Chapter of Sweet Adelines meets at 7 p.m. in the basement of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, 1408 W. 12th Ave. Information: 343-0745 or 342-4850, evenings.

Wednesday

The Sunrise Rotary Club meets at 7 a.m. at the Regency Gardens, 3021 W. Highway 50.

The Emporia Camera Club meets at 7 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, 802 Commercial St. The program, “Image Compositing,” will be given by Brandon Depew. The membership showing will be Animals and Pets. The effect of camera settings on water photography will be the tech tip. Greeters will be Frank and Marilyn Harbaugh.

Lyon County Chapter 36 Disabled American Veterans meets at 7:30 p.m. at the Army Reserve Center, 1412 E. Sixth Ave. The Auxiliary meets at 7:30 p.m. the fourth Wednesday of each month at the same location at 7:30 p.m.

Thursday

The Flint Hills Optimist Club meets at noon at the ESU Memorial Union.

The Hi-Noon Kiwanis Club meets at noon at the Emporia Country Club, 18th Avenue and Rural Street.

The Sertoma Club meets at noon at the American Legion, 2921 W. 12th Ave. Glenn Boyce will present the program.

Altrusa International of Emporia meets at the home of Elaine Henrie, assisted by Sandy Kramer. Kramer will present the program.

Flint Hills Area Vietnam Veterans meets at 6 p.m. at American Legion Post 5, 2921 W. 12th Ave.

The Emporia Gardeners of America Club meets at 7 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church. The program will be about Wales and scenery. Guests are welcome. The annual banquet will be held Nov. 6 at the Flint Hills Technical College, with reservations due today.

Friday

P.E.O. Chapter DI meets at 1 p.m. at the Wyndam Place Residences with Nancy Toms and Sue Wilson serving as hostesses, assisted by Jeanne Hubert. Mary Stauffer will present the program, a “Preview of the ESU Homecoming Musical.”

P.E.O. Chapter ES meets at 1:30 p.m. at the William Allen White home, “Red Rocks,” for a tour. Paula Sauder will be the hostess.

Saturday

The Emporia Airport Action Group meets at approximately 9:30 a.m. every Saturday in the main terminal of the Emporia Municipal Airport for “hangar talk,” coffee doughnuts. “You are free to move about” the airport. Information: 342-3598.

The Emporia Chess Society meets from 1:30 to 4 p.m. every Saturday at the Granada Coffee Company. All ages and skill levels are welcome, including children. There is no charge.

Oct. 20

Alpha Sigma and Alpha Zeta chapters of Alpha Delta Kappa will have a joint meeting at 6 p.m. at the Olpe Chicken House. Kathy O’Mara and Louise Wright will be the hostesses.
