EMS eighth-graders shut out S. Heights
Emporia Middle School’s eighth-grade A football team scored a shutout win on Thursday, defeating Shawnee Heights 14-0.
Sean Ford starred defensively for the Vikings, making 10 tackles and recording a sack, R.J. Kuhn had seven stops and Jackson Perez corralled an interception. EMS’s scores came on a 70-yard punt return for a touchdown by Jerrell Morrow and a Mike Kitselman 30-yard scoring run.
The eighth-grade B-team lost to Shawnee Heights 12-6 on Thursday. Raul Perlara scored a touchdown for Emporia on an 11-yard second-quarter run and also recorded 13 tackles on the defensive side. Joseph Monroy and Sam Johnson each added 10 tackles for the Vikings.
Emporia Middle will play its last game of the year at Washburn Rural on Oct. 21.
