Rodeo Showdown promises

The Lyon County Fair Board will be the host for contestants from across Kansas for the Lyon County Rodeo Showdown 2008 on Oct. 18 and 19 at the Lyon County Fairgrounds.

High school contestants will compete in bull riding, saddle bronc riding, bareback riding, team roping, calf roping, steer wrestling, pole bending, barrel racing, goat tying, breakaway roping and cutting horse contests.

The Wrangler junior high school contestants will compete in goat tying, pole bending, team roping, chute dogging, ribbon roping, bull riding and barrel racing.

Cutting begins at 9 a.m. with the other events beginning at noon Oct. 18 and at 10 a.m. Oct. 19.

Local and area contestants will compete from Emporia High School, North and Southern Lyon County schools, with others from Morris, Coffey, Osage, Greenwood and Chase counties.

Tickets are $7 for one day and $10 for both days. Teachers and principals are admitted free with school identification.
