Pupusa El Mexicano has a new name, a new home with double the space, new menu items and a grand reopening to look forward to Saturday.
The restaurant owned by Nestor Tovar, was located in the old rail car at 726 Commercial St. When the car was sold to a couple in Oklahoma, the restaurant relocated to 315 Commercial St., former site of El Palenque. The restaurant, which now operates under the name Marcelo’s Restaurant, opened this week serving Salvodoran-Mexican food. The train car is scheduled to be moved to Oklahoma this month.
Tovar said the restaurant will have some specials on Saturday for its grand re-opening.
He said the new building is great.
“It’s more room and more comfortable,” he said.
The rail car had a seating capacity of about 25 people. The new restaurant has room for around 60. Before reopening, the restaurant got new siding, new carpeting and fresh paint on the inside, Tovar said.
The restaurant is a family affair. Tovar said it was his family’s dream to open up a restaurant.
“That was my dream,” he said. “It was all of our dreams.”
