Museum night
The October Night at the Museum at 7 p.m. Tuesday will be a Vietnam roundtable discussion with Frank Lowery, Rich Jaggard and Karen Epp discussing different views of the war. The free program is held at the Lyon County Historical Museum and open to the public.
Quintet
The Mid-America Woodwind Quintet will perform at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in Heath Recital Hall at the Beach Music Hall on the ESU campus. Admission is $5 general admission; $4 for students and senior citizens. Information: 341-5431.
Gridley visit
German-born physicist, Albert Einstein, as portrayed by Jim Stukey of Burlington, will visit the Gridley Branch of the Coffey County Library at 7 p.m. Thursday. Einstein, best known for his theory of relativity, was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for physics in 1921 for his discovery of the law of the photoelectric effect, said the news release. He developed many theories and published more than 300 scientific works. In 1999, Time magazine name him the Person of the Century.
Stukey, a native Kansan living in Burlington for most of his life, has spent much time working on mural projects in Coffey County, Wichita, Topeka and Emporia. There are murals in Burlington, New Strawn, Gridley, Waverly and LeRoy. He has illustrated medical journals and children’s books and designed art work for rubber stamps and embroideries. He also has taught children’s art classes and acts and directs all types of adult and children’s theater productions. In the past few years, he has portrayed Einstein and Mark Twain to many audiences.
The public is invited to attend. Door prizes will be provided by the R.E. French Family Educational Foundation. Refreshments will be served by the Gridley Friends of the Library.
Musical
The ESU Homecoming 2008 production will be “Something’s Afoot, a musical comedy whodunit,” with book, music and lyrics by James McDonald, David Vos and Robert Gerlach and additional music by Ed Linderman. Performances will be at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 23, 24 and 25 and 2 p.m. Oct. 26 in Albert Taylor Hall. For tickets, call 341-6387.
