Three public viewings have been set up for the Budweiser Clydesdales when they make a four-day visit to Emporia to take part in the annual Veterans Day parade.
Children and adults are welcome to visit the big bay teams in the stables located at the Emporia Public Works buildling, 1220 Hatcher St., according to Ron Whitney, special events coordinator for Mussatto Brothers of Osage City. Mussatto distributes Anheuser-Busch products, including Budweiser beers, in the Emporia area.
The viewings will be held from noon to 2 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 9; from 2 to 6 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 10; and Tuesday, Nov. 11, from 2 to 6 p.m., all at the stables. The horses will be in their stalls when the public arrives.
“There’ll be a big area that (adults and children) can come in,” Whitney said. “There’ll be plenty of room. ... Bad weather would not cancel the public viewings, unless it was really bad.”
The unit will march in the parade, which will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Nov. 11, at Fourth Avenue and Commercial Street. Whitney expects the horses and wagon to be hitched for the parade in the fenced-in parking lot north of the underpass at Mechanic Street.
The Clydesdales, their driver, coachman, and two walkers that accompany them in parades, will leave Emporia the morning of Nov. 12.
“They bring their own dog,” Whitney added.
