Thursday, October 9, 2008

Chase County’s volleyball team dropped two matches to Council Grove on Tuesday and went 1-2 at the Flinthills Tournament earlier this week.

The Bulldogs lost to Council Grove 19-25, 22-25 and 14-25, 25-21, 20-25. Maci Wells led the Bulldogs with 11 kills over the two matches.

“It has taken half the season for the varsity to start to understand the new system and put it together,” Bulldogs coach Gene Windle said.

At the Flinthills tourney, Chase County lost to Circle 9-25, 12-25 and to West Elk 15-25, 17-25, before defeating Oxford 25-22, 25-12.

The junior varsity team beat Council Grove on Tuesday 25-16, 13-25, 15-10 and finished fourth at the Flinthills Tournament.

Hartford loses two

Hartford’s volleyball squad dropped matches to Waverly and Olpe on Tuesday at HHS, falling to 6-14 on the season.

The Jaguars fell to Waverly 12-25, 17-25. Kellie Farr led the Jags with nine kills, and Amanda Zwellmiller served perfectly on three tries.

“We hit the ball better than last week but had a tough time passing the ball,” Hartford coach Paul Cassity said.

Olpe took Hartford by back-to-back 20-25 scores. Paige Hamman led Hartford this time with four kills, and three other Jaguars — Kristen Williams, Samantha Wilkerson and Christina Lee — joined Zwellmiller in registering perfect serve percentages.
