Osage City was one of seven Kansas community awarded grants from the Kansas Department of Social and Rehabilitation Service to promote independent living for people with disabilities.
Grant funding comes from the Title VII-B of the Federal Rehabilitation Act. The grant also is known as the Quantitative Use of Independent Living Title VII-B or “QUILT” grant.
“The grants are intended to build community and systemic capacity for independent living,” a press release stated.
Non-profit agencies’ programs that are directed by people with disabilities are eligible to receive grant funding. The proposed projects must comply with federal guidelines and the Kansas State Plan for Independent Living.
“Successful applicants proposed a variety of projects to support QUILT goals, including mentoring of youth with disabilities, training for parents and children with disabilities, peer-to-peer networks focused on achieving self-sufficiency through employment and transportation programs,” according to the press release.
The Resource Center for Independent Living in Osage City received a grant.
