Emporia main street Harvest Festival this weekend

Tuesday, October 7, 2008

There will be plenty of activities for people of all ages to enjoy Saturday during the Fall Festival in downtown Emporia.

The Harvest Festival, which is being sponsored by Emporia Main Street, will be from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday in the Farmer’s Market Parking Lot, Seventh Avenue and Merchant Street.

The festival is being held to celebrate fall, said Kayla Oney, director of Emporia Main Street.

“It should be a really good time for everybody,” Oney said. “This is a great time of year for people to get out and enjoy the weather and enjoy families before the weather gets too cold.”

Activities will run in conjunction with the Farmers Market, which will start at 8 a.m. Kids activities include pumpkin painting, pumpkin bowling, the Art Mobile, face painting with the Emporia State University Student Art Therapy Organization, games with the Emporia Recreation Center and the barrel train. Representatives from the David Traylor Zoo of Emporia will be on hand as well, with zoo animals and information on the zoo programs.

Activities for adults include Main Street merchant booths. The booths will feature fall products and promotions. There also will be a free tour of the newly restored Granada Theatre.

Participants also will be able to give their taste buds a workout at the festival with fresh pressed hot cider on hand and fall produce and fall baked goods at the market, Oney said.

“We’re really excited to have all these groups together,” Oney said. “It’s going to be fun for all ages. You can stay the entire day and have something to do. ... We like to invite people in the living room of the community.”
