ESU junior Skyler Delmott finished second at the Jock Nitch Invitational on Friday at Jones Park and was named the MIAA men’s cross country athlete of the week on Monday for his efforts.
Delmott, an Emporia native, helped the Hornets win their only home meet of the season for the second straight year.
Delmott won the race last season and was not able to defend his title, but he did finish the 8K race in a season-best 25 minutes, 9 seconds, finishing behind Julius Bor of Cloud County County Community College, who set a course record with his time of 23:55.
Delmott’s time was the second fastest ever by an ESU runner at Jones Park. He has finished as ESU’s top runner in every collegiate race of his career. Friday’s race was his eighth straight that he has finished in the top 15.
Monday’s honor was the second time this season Delmott as received the runner of the week award.
