Emporia High’s cross country teams competed at the Seaman Cross Country Invitational on Saturday in Topeka, with the EHS girls finishing seventh out of 10 teams.
Abigail Chiroy placed 12th for Emporia with a time of 16:28, the only Spartan girl to finish in the top 20. Abbey Davies finished 21st, Whitney Bauck 34th, Joslyn Barton 40th, Mysha Mason 56th and Tanya Morales 62nd. The EHS girls finished with 144 points. Olathe East took the girls title with 38.
Emporia ran four runners on the boys side and did not register a team score. Octavio Dikin led the way for EHS with a 17:22 time and a 14th-place finish. Sal Tovar finished 40th, Matt Wayman 54th and Cody Black 60th.
Haysville Campus won the team boys title with 38 points.
“We held some people out of the races,” EHS coach Mark Stanbrough said. “We are working on getting back to full strength for the championship meets — league, regional, state — at the end of the year.”
EHS returns to action Saturday in El Dorado at a meet beginning at 10 a.m. That will be the final tuneup before the Spartans host the Centennial League meet on Oct. 18 at Jones Park.
