October is National Fire Prevention Month and this week is Fire Prevention Week in Emporia.
This year’s theme to Fire Prevention Week is “Prevent Home Fires.” Emporia has seen four home fire-related deaths this year. Thursday evening will be packed full of activities and demonstrations geared toward fire prevention.
The Fire Prevention Extravaganza will be from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday in the Anderson Building of the Lyon County Fairgrounds. There will be demonstrations by Emporia Fire Department; Emporia Police Department; Emporia Police Dispatch; Lyon County Sheriff Department; Olpe Fire Department; Newman Hospital; Life Team; Kansas Fire Marshal; Kansas Highway Patrol; Lyon County Fire District No. 2; Americus Fire Department; Williams Automotive; KVOE; and the Emporia High Spartan Education Theatre.
