Coming back for birthday party

Former Olpe resident Bob Hayes will return to Olpe to celebrate his 75th birthday anniversary with friends and family members.

Hayes, who lives in Lake Havasu City, Ariz., will have an open house and reception from 2 to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 11, in the American Legion Hall in Olpe.

The event is open to the public.

Family research

The Flint Hills Genealogical Society and Emporia Public Library will hold “a night of food, fun and family research” for new and veteran researchers from 6 to 10 p.m. Saturday, according to a news release.

Casual instruction will be available for new researchers who want help getting started. Veteran researchers can explore new materials that have been added to the library’s genealogy collection throughout this past year.

The library’s computers on the second floor also will be available for genealogy research. Participants are to bring snacks or covered dishes to share with others. Beverages will be provided.

For more information, call Kelli Proehl at the library, 340-6452.
