ESU loses to UCM 42-14

Emporia State lost 42-14 to Central Missouri on Saturday in Warrensburg, Mo.

Freshman Sheldon Smith added a second touchdown with 1:47 left, hitting Xavier Smith in stride for a 67-yard touchdown pass.

14:20 left in fourth quarter

Eric Czerniewski threw for his fourth touchdown pass to give the Mules a 42-0 lead.

Czerniewski's four TDs is a career best. The junior quarterback has 283 yards passing, while ESU's quarterbacks are 3-of-11 for 68 yards.

3:08 left in the third quarter

Eric Czerniewski ran for a three-yard touchdown to give Central Missouri a 35-0 lead.

Czerniewski has accounted four four of the Mules' five touchdowns.

Halftime

Central Missouri leads Emporia State 28-0 at halftime in Warrensburg, Mo. Eric Czerniewski has three touchdown passes for the Mules, who also scored on a blocked punt.

Emporia State has not scored a touchdown in four quarters, dating back to last Saturday's game against Missouri Southern.

7:00 left in the second quarter

Eric Czerniewski threw his third touchdown pass, a 55-yard strike to Cosby DeMarco that gave Central Missouri a 28-0 lead.

Zach Rampy has left the game and been replaced at quarterback by freshman Sheldon Smith.

10:48 left in the second quarter

Eric Czerniewski connected on a 49-yard touchdown pass Glenn Milner for the second time to take a 21-0 lead.

The Mules followed a Matt Perry 32-yard missed field goal by going 80 yards in two plays.

2:58 minutes left first quarter

Central Missouri's Brett Ginn blocked a Johnny Torres punt and Marc Tiernan picked up the ball and ran 10 yards for a touchdown to give the Mules a 14-0 lead.

It was the first punt Torres has had blocked this season.

4:48 left in the first quarter

Central Missouri's Glenn Milner caught a screen pass from Eric Czerniewski and went 56 yards for a touchdown to give the Mules a 7-0 lead. The touchdown was the longest play from scrimmage ESU's defense has given up this year.

The Hornets have had good field possession on their first two possession but have yet to pick up a first down.
