Council Grove
The Council Grove Republican reported that a resolution approving the sale of general obligation bonds in the amount of $500,000 at an interest rate of 2.75 percent, was approved at a recent meeting of the USD 417 Board of Education.
The short-term bonds, to provide funds for early expenses in connection with the new high school addition, will mature on April 1, 2009. These expenses could include architect fees, etc.
Burlington
The Coffey County Republican reported that the Burlington Rotary Club has signed a contract with Kelly Miller Circus for the exhibition of an all-new 2008 show. The circus will be in Burlington on Oct. 26. The public is invited to come watch the animals being unloaded and fed and the elephants raising the big top. Activities will begin at 7:30 a.m.; the tent will be raised at 8:30 a.m. and 9 a.m. Guides will be furnished for groups or anyone attending. The circus will perform at 2 and 4:30 p.m. Burlington Rotary Club will sell tickets in advance and will be sold at several outlets as well.
