EAC drive surpasses goal

Saturday, October 4, 2008

This year has turned into a growing year for the Emporia Arts Council.

As of Friday afternoon, the EAC’s annual membership drive had brought in 29 percent more members than last year. And the organization isn’t done there.

According to Melissa Windsor, executive director, the EAC would like to secure another 53 memberships before closing out its annual membership drive at the end of October.

“We already have 56 additional individual memberships this year and 17 additional business memberships,” she said.

The growth of members is being attributed to a number of factors.

“In the last couple of years such high profile events such as The Second City and Gaelic Storm have brought a lot of new people to the Arts Council. I think the community is also excited about this year’s performing arts season.”

Windsor said the excitement surrounding the Arts Council’s capital campaign for a new arts center and the Emporia Granada Theatre’s grand opening has also contributed to this year’s record membership number.

“Our educational outreach programming, including the Art Mobile, has made many more people aware of our organization’s endeavors,” said Windsor. “From Olpe to Americus, from Strong City to Madison many children and families have benefited.”

Anyone wishing to join the Emporia Art Council as a member, can call 343-6473 or email info@emporiaksarts.org.
